MEDi@ø101 (media-zero-one-zero-one) is the brand that encompasses Gianluca Rotondo’s work and represents in a nutshell the multimedia and digital nature of his experience and the core business of his professional activity.
The use of modern media and digital tools is becoming increasingly important, indeed indispensable, to represent and promote any kind of work and service, especially with the spread of the Internet and particularly interactive Web 2.0 and dynamic Web pages.
The representation of the content and use of these means can be developed on different levels and with different complexity of interaction, depending on the target audience. As well as pursuing stimulating and effective communication, it is essential, for those who use it, to manage the content as simply and as fully as possible.
Web Developer
He was born in Benevento (Italy) on 22 February 1971 and had his first IT experience in the 80s on the Commodore VIC-20 home computer before moving on to the Commodore 64, the Amiga and finally x86-family PCs. From that period on, he has enthusiastically continued his self-taught studies, using various programming languages like Basic, dBase, Assembly and C as well as developing and experimenting with different types of software, from management suites to simple videogames, from hacking techniques to audio-visual presentations (Demoscene).
At the same time, in those years, he cultivated his enthusiasm for sport, practising handball at amateur level, and video games too. This latter enthusiasm persists today, ranging over different genres, especially RPG and strategy games but also FPS and sports games.
In the 90s his emerging creativity shifted his interest to communicative and emotional representation involving music and design.
He studied piano and guitar and devoted himself to composing songs both for his own satisfaction and those aimed at professional experience in the world of videogames. He listened mostly to rock music and heavy metal, genres that reflected at that time his own way of making music and his own passionate and unconventional way of presenting himself to the world.
In 1991 he obtained a high school diploma in Accounting and Business from the G. Alberti Technical and Business Institute in Benevento.
In the same period, he devoted himself to the study of communication techniques and the use of software for the development of advertising designs. He put into practice various techniques for printed and audio-visual media, ranging from digital retouching to digital composition and from video editing to 3D graphics, both static and animated. Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia FreeHand, Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, NewTek Lightwave 3D and Adobe After Effects software became his bread and butter.
His curiosity and interest in the rapid technological development of those years led him to devote himself to consulting, assembling and optimisation of hardware/software solutions for workstations and servers.
At the end of the 90s, he discovered what would become his main enthusiasm and professional activity up till now: the Internet.
His previous experience helped him to adapt easily to this new media. Web design became his new specialisation that he developed in subsequent years.
In the 2000s his ever-deepening passion for music and videogames made them irreplaceable in his life. His musical interests broadened, embracing a taste for listening to blues and jazz with diversions into Western and Asian pop as well as classical music and opera.
His passion for cinema, and in particular as a lover of thrillers, horror and crime films, both contemporary and historical, started in those years. As did his taste for the best American TV series. His enthusiasms also extended from time to time to strategy board games with self-painted miniature figures.
From the mid-2000s his specialisation moved from Web design to Web development, resuming his past interest in programming. He studied the PHP language and relational databases, in particular MySql, as well as studying HTML, advanced JavaScript and related frameworks such as jQuery and jQueryUI.
This has been his main professional activity ever since.
In recent times, as well as the Web, he has been developing software for mobile devices, smartphones and tablets, both for the perfect extension of Internet services and promotional objects, and for the design of user interfaces.

Duty cannot be contrasted with pleasure nor work with play when duty is pleasure, when work is play.
The skills used derive from know-how gained over the years and cover both technical knowledge and communication methods. All of which enables the development of complex Web platforms ranging from institutional websites to e-commerce sites, from information sites to corporate intranets, with the possibility of expanding and integrating those services into the mobile world, all with a careful eye on image and usability.
The tools and development environments used, both commercial and open source, produce projects most cost-effectively. These tools range from programming and markup languages such as PHP, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript to graphics software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, from operating systems such as Windows, OSX and Linux to frameworks such as jQuery and PhoneGap, from IDEs such as Dreamweaver, Eclipse and Xcode to video and animation software such as Premiere and After Effects, from data structure languages such as XML and SQL to on-demand services such as Web Services and RSS.
The main goal is to satisfy the customer, allowing them to have an image and tools designed and created for their particular needs, at the same time making them active participants in the activities of design and implementation.
Another goal, no less important, is to allow all customers, small and large, to realise professional projects which can be used to grow the business and which come in at the right cost.
The future of the Net, of the image and technology, is characterised by growth and by the Net's ever greater importance. The challenge in these areas, both for those who produce content and the related management tools, and also for those who use such media for their own businesses, is to research and design solutions that are ever more effective and within the reach of the greatest number of key players.
Three people were at work on a construction site. All were doing the same job, but when each was asked what the job was, the answers varied. Breaking rocks, the first replied. Earning my living, the second said. Helping to build a cathedral, said the third.
The services offered can be grouped into 3 main categories that complement each other and together contribute to the development of a project.

A CMS (Content Management System) is a web application to manage the contents of a website (but not only) without physically operations to the pages and without any technical service.
The tool provided by MEDi@ø101, called Aø101, is a CMS that, in addition to managing content, provides statistical, analysis and marketing tools integrated into a single solution.
The most important feature of Aø101 is its customization according to the specific needs of the Customer allowing in this way to take advantage of an immediate and easy usage which makes it unique compared to other solutions on the market.
A direct consequence of this system is the security issue: being a customized product and relatively less popular to other solutions turns out to be less vulnerable.
Finally, due to its personalized nature, Aø101 adapts to be able to manage any type of content and to be a tool that accurately reflects the project requirements, producing a streamlined and efficient website.
